W. Indies v Pakistan, Gabba, 19/01/2004

An intriguing match, and I'm somewhat glad that Pakistan won the way they did. At the same time, I'd really like to see the Windies improve their one-day game.

The early loss of Shoaib Akhtar to some sort of injury was disappointing. The batting of the Windies however showed some fire, though I think they could have made a larger target had some of them, including Lara, hung around longer. It was however good that Pakistan were able to keep up decent bowling performance without Shoaib. We'll see if he's still able to play, and how well Pakistan play without him.

The Pakistan innings was delightful. Kamran's century at nearly a run a ball was just great cricket. Good work from Malik and Inzamam, and basically, for the whole innings, they just kept the score ticking over. For the better part of the innings, the run rate was close to if not above the required run rate. This was probably due in part to the fielding and bowling performance of the Windies, something they really need to tighten up.

If the Windies play like this, they are going to be absolutely hammered today by Australia.
